When One Barrel Just Won’t Cut It

Our #NewCasual ties have been such a hit, so we’re expanding the Collection. We recently added a selection of ties (plus one bow tie) from NewCasual master Everett, most from their Double-Barrel series, which features contrasting patterns and fabrics on the front and tail of the tie. They all come in a sleek 2″ width.

Some of our favorites:

Get Your Dandy On – New Lapel Flowers

Lapel Flower

We’ve told you before how the Lapel Flower (the modern boutonniere) is making a comeback.  They can be found adorning the lapels of dapper gentlemen from Milan to New York City. There seems to also be a bit of a coup amongst the SportsCenter crew up in Bristol Connecticut (See Ray Lewis). What these men already know, and what you’ll soon realize, is that the lapel flower is the new pocket square, a way to add a dash of style and intrigue to an outfit, without conforming to the norm.

We’ve seen a huge increase in demand, so we’re increasing the supply! We recently added 8 new lapel flowers to the Collection, from Made in Manhattan designer Harper Heritage. Check out the additions here, or go to their website to view/purchase the entire line.

New Kiton Ties and Pocket Squares

TheCollection banner

We’re always doing our best to keep our Collection “fresh” (see what we did there?). This comes in many forms: 1) ensuring we have variety at each membership level, 2) multiples of each item so they are generally available, 3) finding the best emerging designers, 4) experimenting with products and designs.

In this light, we have been making many inventory purchases over the past month(with more to come), that will be made available on the site over the coming weeks. Since the Collection is getting a bit cumbersome (over 1600 unique items!), we will highlight some of our favorite new additions here, so you can efficiently add the ones you like to your closet.

Kiton_03Today, we’re proud to highlight our new collection of Kiton pocket squares. Kiton represents the finest in Italian luxury. Their pocket squares are 15″, made from the highest quality silk in Napoli, and feature hand-rolled edges in a contrasting color.  The new additions feature medallion prints in a variety of bold colors. Kiton pocket squares make a great stand-alone accessory with a blazer and shirt, or as a compliment to a quality tie.

You can check them all out, along with our Kiton ties, here.

By the way, these pocket squares retail for $140 each. We’re pretty confident in our value proposition, so here’s the link to prove it.

Designer of the Month: Everett

In case you haven’t gotten the memo, 2013 has been all about embracing your #NewCasual game. In the past, dressing down was the way to stand out from the sheep and declare your individuality.  But the scales have tilted, and it is time to add a dash of class to your casual wardrobe.  With a variety of designers and collections to choose from, Everett is an emerging brand to look out for.

After working with Everett at the Dapper Man Shop and enjoying their company at the Dapper Derby Party, this handcrafted brand deserves the proper recognition.

Everett co-founder Tinoy shows how to rock a tie with swag.

Founded by friends Nathan Coleman, James Brooks and Tinoy Kashif, Everett is about the idea of “wearing yourself”. Built upon this motto, Everett strives to remind people that what you wear is an expression of yourself. “There will always be restrictions, but there will always be an exception. Find that exception.”

Not your grandfather’s bow ties. Unless your grandfather was the coolest SOB around.

With #NewCasual gaining traction around the country, we asked our friends at Everett where they see fashion heading in the next five years. For them, “More and more men are learning that dressing well is a privilege and the days of having difficulty finding accessorizing options are over.” Even so, Everett believes that men’s accessories will continue to focus on subtle accents and decorative details to allow wearers to make a statement.

Designer of the Month – Daniel Bruce of DiBi Ties

DIBI - Casual Neckwear for a Cause

DiBi – Casual Neckwear for a Cause

Many of our readers and FreshNeck members are already familiar with DiBi ties from our collection.  We carry 43 unique DiBi items, including ties, bow ties, and tie bars, all of which can be found here.

Most are crafted using non-silk fabrics, including cotton, seersucker, velvet, and chambray.  Given this, as well as the slim width (ranging from 2-2.75″), DiBi ties are ideal for that #NewCasual look, perfectly suitable for a date or a night out with the boys.

But what many don’t know is that DIBI runs its own foundation (www.dibifoundation.com), which seeks to strengthen and expand educational services and supplies in rural communities throughout the world. A portion of every purchase goes towards providing teaching kits.  FreshNeck is proud to participate in such a worth cause.

Daniel Bruce, founder of DiBi and the DiBi Foundation, describes the brand as representing “the fashion conscious shopper who enjoys plenty of selection at competitive prices.  On the men’s fashion industry, Bruce says “it is growing at a rapid rate, especially accessories. I can only imagine the industry expanding and continuing at this pace.” As a longstanding partner of FreshNeck, Daniel says of the unique “Netflix for Ties” business model “it’s a unique way to offer accessibility to fashion for those who are in need of ties on a daily basis.”

FreshNeck is proud to announce its recent partnership with BowTie Cause.  Launched in 2010 by former NFL Linebacker Dhani Jones as a philanthropic initiative, BowTie Cause utilizes the Bow Tie to raise awareness, and funds, for various charities and non-profits.

By purchasing (or renting) a Bow Tie Cause bow tie, you are showing support for that cause.  Nothing starts a conversation better than a bow tie, so it’s a great way to spread the word.

As part of its ongoing relationship, FreshNeck has purchased and will stock various bow ties relating to different causes.  Currently, they offer three different options:

(Bow)Tie of the Day – Vitaliano Pancaldi Black Swarovski Crystal

Many things are signified by the turning of the weather, and the coming of Spring.  One of our favorites – Wedding Season! Great food, open bars, dancing, bridesmaids – what’s not to love? But you don’t need us to tell you – after all you’ve been staring at those invitations on your fridge since they came 4 months ago.  But you do need us to answer one question – “What am I going to wear?”  Well, this is actually a trick question. Because now with FreshNeck, the “Netflix for Ties,” you no longer have to wear that same ol’ boring solid black tie or bow tie over and over again to ever event.  This is your chance to mix it up, and stand out from the rest of the sheep.  FreshNeck has tons of formal accessories (134 to be exact) that will have you looking dapper, refined, and classy.

So in this spirit, we’re using our Tie of the Day column to highlight one of our favorites, the Vitaliano Pancaldi ruffled black silk bow tie featuring Swarovski Crystals.  Here’s a few things you should know about it: 1) it’s made from the highest quality Italian black silk, so will qualify for “Black Tie” 2) the ruffles and crystals give it the requisite “wow” factor to start at least 20 conversations, and 3) it’s pre-tied, so you won’t have to watch a tutorial before donning this bad boy. So what are you waiting for? Channel your inner Bradley Cooper and sign up at FreshNeck today.

Designer of the Month: VJNY

In 2006, out of his New Jersey apartment, Jesse Chao launched VITTORIO J.  Six years later the President of the United States was wearing his designs.  At FreshNeck we carry Vittorio J’s VJNY collection (and love it) which focuses on slim neck-wear inspired by “New York City’s unique cultural soufflé.”  We talked to Jesse Chao about his background, his inspirations and what’s next for VITTORIO J.

Jesse graduated from Montclair State University with a major in marketing and finance and no traditional fashion experience to speak of.  It was in college where he started dreaming of designing, he had always had great style, but didn’t know where to start.  So he studied one of the greats – Ralph Lauren – who also started in neckties.  Considering he was in college and money was tight, Jesse took a cue from Ralph Lauren and started designing ties which were relatively inexpensive to design and manufacture.

vjny2

Nothing quite captures the essence of VJNY like the King Skull moniker.  It was inspired by Jesse’s love of the skull and cross-n-bones pattern, with a twist, the added crown symbolizes the ROYALITY of the design, which is part of the VITTORIO J mantra, “CLASSIC. ROYAL. GOODS”.  Living in the city Jesse calls, “the fashion epicenter of the universe,” he often draws his inspirations from the scenes of New York , including tattoos, street wear, and the flags of different countries hanging in multicultural streets of New York City.  His favorite tie of the VJNY collection is The Filipino Flag inspired tie which represents his own ethnicity.  Jesse stresses three keys in making a great tie, “Craftsmanship, Design and what [he] calls the ‘Wow’ factor.”  And believe us, he delivers.

We asked Jesse what makes a good tie so important.  He gave us a great answer, “it’s the quintessential accessory for a man, it reflects your personality.”  Well if that’s true his ties reflect some of the strongest personalities in the world.  Whether it’s men’s style icon Pharrell, basketball legend Magic Johnson or the most powerful man in the free world Barack Obama wearing his designs, it’s safe to say he’s ties reflect well.

With momentum on his side, Jesse looks to expand into different accessories, including bowties, pocket squares and scarves (you can bet we’ll be carrying those as soon as they come out).  He also hinted at “some really great collaborations coming for Spring/Summer 2013 with other elite NYC designers.”  Although he wouldn’t tip his hand on who he plans to collaborate with, we’re definitely excited for the possibilities.

We ended talking about the future of menswear.  Jesse commented, “People are becoming so much more receptive to new thinking in shopping and spending, because it gives the consumer a lot of options and possibilities at moment’s notice, which I think is cool… So naturally, aligning VJNY with FreshNeck is a great opportunity for my brand.”  The feeling is mutual; we love carrying the VJNY collection and love the feedback we’re getting on it.  Its brands like this, with interesting back stories and great designs, we think our customers can really get behind.

Designer of the Month: Armstrong & Wilson

Ontario Armstrong and Clifton Wilson, Founders of Armstrong & Wilson

In 2009, Philly natives Ontario Armstrong and Clifton Wilson teamed up to put a fresh twist on modern men’s accessories.  The two first met over a decade earlier while studying fashion design at the Art Institute.  After graduation, Esquire Magazine named Wilson one of the “Best Dressed Real Men in America.” Three years later Armstrong followed suit as Esquire anointed him with the same title.

Together, two of the best dressed real men in America created Armstrong & Wilson.  And thank God they did, because it’s one of our favorite men’s accessory brands out right now.  They originally started with the pocket square.  The classic men’s accessory nearly as old as the suit itself.  Unfortunately since it’s incarnation, the pocket square has gone through little innovation.  That is, until Armstrong & Wilson got their hands on it.  With bold colors, distinct patterns, innovative fabric choices and, of course, they’re signature button look, they totally changed the pocket square game.  Actor/ Rapper/ Menswear enthusiast, Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def even gave them a shout out claiming he rocks almost all their pocket squares.

In their quest for worldwide men’s accessories domination the pair expanded to neckties.  Building on their classic and refined style, they didn’t disappoint.  Armstrong & Wilson have created a collection of timeless men’s fashion, twisting old-school dapper with a new school sense.

We’ve already given them dap once before, but here are some of our other favorite pieces from their collection (all of which you can find on our website FreshNeck.com).

Brownies with Sprinkles

Now this is a statement piece.  Made from a wool and cashmere blend, it’s extremely high quality.  It’s tan plaid design is sure to catch some eyes.  But it’s all about the details with Armstrong & Wilson, the purple trim and leather button are really what grabs our attention from this pocket square.

Feeling Blue

Navy is an extremely versatile color and so is this linen pocket square.  The lavender trim just pushes it over the top and we cannot forget that purple and pink flower button, which Armstrong & Wilson have become known for.

Mr. Stanley

This is much more than the plain old grey tie your grandfather used to wear.  The grey and black plaid wool give this tie an awesome textured look and the heather blue wool and purple tipping is a detail you’ll only find with Armstrong & Wilson.

Sir Winston II

This navy pinstripe wool tie is sophistication personified.  It’s what we love about Armstrong & Wilson, taking a classic idea and executing it perfectly.  Of course, the heather grey herringbone wool, pink tipping doesn’t hurt either.

You can check out their website at www.armstrongandwilson.com.
