Step Up Your Prom Game

prom_img

With the start of the spring season, that only means one thing for our high school sartorialists: Prom Season is upon us. The pressure to find the right date can be stressful enough to begin with, but then comes the challenge of dressing the part. The gentlemen (traditionally) try and match the colors their date will be wearing to compliment her dress, which is always the safe bet, but can be difficult when she’s decided on the cadmium colored dress with cerulean accents.  The matching tie and vest from Men’s Wearhouse can be generic, so you run the risk of wearing the same outfit as a few of your classmates. Nobody wants that.

With FreshNeck’s One-Time Rentals, you will have access to an expansive 2,000 + item inventory of ties, bow ties, pocket squares, cufflinks and more! Rentals start as low as $5 per item! Now you can stand out in the sea of high school mediocrity and even impress your date with that newfound sense of sophistication.  She won’t be able to keep her eyes (and hands) off of you throughout the night, as well as making all of the other ladies jealous with envy.

Whether you are renting a black tuxedo or wearing your tried and true navy or charcoal suit (and not that all-white tuxedo that you will regret down the road), let your accessories do some of the talking to give your special occasion’s setup a bit more “pop” to help catch someone’s eye. It can be subtle and elegant like these custom black and navy Biagio Santo Bow Ties or a touch of chic class with a skinny floral Ted Baker tie. Suspenders will not only add functionality to your tuxedo in lieu of a clunky belt buckle, but some European flair as well. Pair these classic black herringbone Trafalgar suspenders with your classic Black Tie garb for a subtle and sophisticated addition.

As always, the pocket square and lapel flower are not required, but are strongly encouraged if you are looking to tie everything together or need that little extra kick to set off your prom day uniform.

Grammy’s Style Recap

Surprisingly, we made it through the entire show.  All in all, we think it was pretty good entertainment, as the focus was squarely on the performances.  Our favorite was Kendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons, but you can go elsewhere for those reviews.  We’re here to give you the lowdown on the mens’ style.

THE HITS:

1. What Is This, Velvet?

Though the Grammy’s took place in “70s and sunny” LA, the leading men embraced the Polar Vortex by donning the wintry fabric, in an array of bold colors.  LL Cool J chose purple, Macklemore a full-suited green , and a bevy of blues.

2. Classic Cool and Jay-Z

He has an unfair advantage, as Beyonce, like cool whip, makes everything better. But Jay/Hova/Sean has really transformed over the years into a style icon. He rocked a textured and tailored tux blazer that remained true to classic tradition with just a hint of modern flair.Beyonce, Jay-Z

3. Jeremy Renner

He typically stays classic, but this time opted to step outside his comfort zone. We applaud the effort, and think he pulled off the monochromatic look by sporting a vest, shirt, tie, and leather jacket in different shades of gray. We didn’t love the pants, but will forgive Jeremy for taking a risk.

THE MISSES:

1. Pharrell and His Interesting Choice of Headgear

Pharrell crushed the Grammy’s, picking up multiple awards, performing, and acting as Daft Punk spokesperson. The Red Carpet was another matter, though. We didn’t mind the casual look of jeans and red baseball leather jacket, but those hats (not, 1, but 2) were just terrible, even getting a nice live shout-out from Arbys.

2. Bolo Ties

We aren’t sure where this resurgence began, but we highlighted Philip River’s interesting press conference choice a few weeks back. It seems as if this western wear hasn’t finished its 5 minutes just yet. Both Macklemore and Bruno Mars adorned the shoestring tie.

3. Ryan Lewis

His partner (in music? life?) killed it (see above). But while he racked up the awards, we can’t get behind Ryan Lewis’ outfit selection. Houndstooth and similar old-school patterns are on-trend, but the print was just too big. We also would have preferred just the blazer, as the full-suit had the look of your grandparents’ old couch.

THE UNDECIDED BUT NOTEWORTHY

1. Madonna’s Identity Crisis

Never one to follow the herd, she embraced the “menswear for women” trend to mixed reactions. We think she nailed it on the Red Carpet with her double-breasted black tuxedo, but missed big-time in her all white western getup during her (similarly lacking) performance.

2. White on White on White

We always see a fair amount of “all black everything” at these soirees, but this year’s Grammy’s brought us our fair share of “all white everything.” This look was diversified by the likes of aging rockers (see above and below) and robots.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and though FreshNeck is geared towards men, many of us have mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and colleagues who have been affected by Breast Cancer.  We’ve come a long way in the educating and detecting of the disease, but still have a way to go.

Fresh Weddings!

groomsmen 2

We can think of no more fitting occasion to get “dressed to the nines” and pay attention to clothing choices than a wedding.  Whether you’re attending as a groomsman, a regular guest, or if this is your special day, just grabbing the first thing in your closet just won’t do.

At FreshNeck, we’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of many of these unforgettable days.  We’ve outfitted grooms, groomsmen, fathers of the brides/grooms, and some very stylish wedding crashers! With FreshNeck, it is now simple and affordable to wear something unique for that one day.  No longer do you have to recycle that solid black bow tie for every single wedding.

How We Can Help

Let’s face it.  Wedding expenses get out of hand quickly, so there is no need to spend an extra grand outfitting yourself and your groomsmen with ties they will likely wear once.  And the old “giving the tie as a groomsmen gift” is a waste of money, and is rarely appreciated by the recipient.  The solution – Rent accessories for the day, and buy them groomsmen gifts with some sentiment attached.

– 1-time rentals on unique formal accessories from designers including Brioni, Vitaliano Pancaldi, Prada, Gucci, and more. Whether you are looking for a tie, bow tie, pocket square, cufflinks, or an entire set, we got you covered.

– Groomsmen packages.  We carry up to 12 units of many of our styles, to outfit your entire  wedding party.

– Custom packages.  Let us know what you’re looking for, in terms of style, type, and color.  You can even provide a picture of your bride-to-be’s color palette, and we can work with our vendors to create something just for you. If we don’t already have it, we’ll get it.

– Discounts with affiliates, including custom tuxedos and shirts.

Our Work

We recently had the honor of being a part of Bonnie and Kevin Boon’s special day at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  Bonnie had chosen a beautiful teal for her bridesmaids’ dresses, and Kevin was looking for something affordable for his 8 groomsmen that would match, and he preferred a skinnier width of tie. FreshNeck worked with one of its vendors, Imani Uomo, to achieve this look, and we added solid white cotton pocket squares to finish it off.  The gentlemen looked dapper, but I think we can all agree the greatest accessory is a beautiful bride like Bonnie.  Check out some of the pictures:
