The Dapper Man Shop: Gently-worn designer accessories at discount prices

dms_02

While we are obviously huge proponents of collaborative consumption, sharing, and access – we understand there is often a desire to own.  So we are introducing The Dapper Man Shop (www.dappermanshop.com) to serve as our traditional e-commerce platform.

Dapper Man Shop

We see the DMS serving two primary functions:

1. Go-to marketplace for gently-worn accessories (30-70% off retail)

With no size component or “icky-factor,” and high mark-ups on retail, ties and other accessories are ideal for the “used” market, yet there is no reliable way to purchase such items. Thrift shops are hit-or-miss and time-consuming, and eBay is unreliable and unregulated. The Dapper Man Shop is your middleman, curator, and regulator. Only mint-condition items, from the best designers, will be made available – so you can purchase with confidence (at huge savings, of course)

Many of the items available on the DMS will have only been worn a handful of times. In fact, many are worn and handled less than the “new” ties on the shelf at your local department store.

So far, we have some selections from Hermes, Brioni, Etro, Versace, Ted Baker, Robert Graham, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Brooks Brothers, Vineyard Vines, and more. We’ll add more every week!

2. All your non-rentable goodies

Not everything can be rented. Shoes, socks, blazers, wallets, the list is endless.  We will be curating the best of the best for the dapper gentleman, from both well-known brands and emerging designers. Stay tuned…

Designer of the Month: Everett

In case you haven’t gotten the memo, 2013 has been all about embracing your #NewCasual game. In the past, dressing down was the way to stand out from the sheep and declare your individuality.  But the scales have tilted, and it is time to add a dash of class to your casual wardrobe.  With a variety of designers and collections to choose from, Everett is an emerging brand to look out for.

After working with Everett at the Dapper Man Shop and enjoying their company at the Dapper Derby Party, this handcrafted brand deserves the proper recognition.

Everett co-founder Tinoy shows how to rock a tie with swag.

Founded by friends Nathan Coleman, James Brooks and Tinoy Kashif, Everett is about the idea of “wearing yourself”. Built upon this motto, Everett strives to remind people that what you wear is an expression of yourself. “There will always be restrictions, but there will always be an exception. Find that exception.”

Not your grandfather’s bow ties. Unless your grandfather was the coolest SOB around.

With #NewCasual gaining traction around the country, we asked our friends at Everett where they see fashion heading in the next five years. For them, “More and more men are learning that dressing well is a privilege and the days of having difficulty finding accessorizing options are over.” Even so, Everett believes that men’s accessories will continue to focus on subtle accents and decorative details to allow wearers to make a statement.

The Dapper Man Shop Recap

As all of you FreshNeck followers know, our Dapper Man Shop event was a huge hit last month. By teaming with other e-commerce sites such as Black Lapel, The Collaterals, Everett, and Pengallan, our pop-up shop provided a location for customers to see and feel firsthand the quality of products we have to offer.

The video above features a wide array of products that were displayed at the event. We also get some insight from FreshNeck owner, David Goldberg as well as our partnering company owners. For More information on the event be sure to check out our previous Dapper Man Shop blog post.

Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend! For those of you who missed it, last week was an exciting time for FreshNeck as we had our first trial with a pop-up shop here in Manhattan. Here is a quick recap of the week’s events and the goals we wanted to accomplish by opening a pop-up shop.

What is The Dapper Man Shop?

From June 4th to June 9th, FreshNeck teamed up with four other online start-up companies, Black Lapel, The Collaterals, Everett, and Pengallan; to open a pop-up shop in SoHo. Inspired by the recent “experience shops” by the likes of Bonobos and Warby Parker, The Dapper Man Shop was a place for the modern man to kick back, enjoy himself, and learn about some kick-ass fashion startups.way to promote our product by giving our customers a traditional shopping experience.  The art-gallery-turned-man-cave featured leather couches, dressers stocked with sick duds, and of course, flowing whiskey.

Although our company has its roots on the internet, we refuse to lose the personal touch and customer engagement.  Face-to-face. Man-to-man. Our members are so important to us, and their feedback is what has helped us build the company.  ,

A little more about the other particpating companies, each doing awesome things in their own right.

Black Lapel – custom shirts and suits for the discerning and fashionable man. I personally own one, and it rocks. And is beyond affordable.

The Collaterals – luxurious yet practical cufflinks and collar links for the modern man. Wore them to a wedding this past week. They look badass, and are practical, too.

Everett Clothing – locally handcrafted neckties, bowties, and pocket squares for men. We carry the line, and are big supporters. Great product, great people behind the company.

Pengallan, luxury slim-fit boxers and other accessories for the stylized individual. Buy two. Your girlfriend will steal one. Guaranteed.

Highlights:

It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and you’ve fancied yourself a stroll in SoHo for some summer shopping. As you turn the corner onto Broome Street, your curiosity is peaked when you notice the lemonade stand, along with two rakish gents smoking cigars on the sidewalk.  You are then personally invited, and escorted into, the Dapper Man Shop. Upon entry, a barista offers you a refreshing beverage before you take a seat on a vintage leather sofa to take in the atmosphere. As you do so, you are kindly greeted by an exceptionally well-dressed man, who invites you to explore the worlds of the participating companies. Shopping the way a man wants – while sitting on a leather couch drinking a single-malt.

While the Shop was run as a retail/experience shop by day, the space was turned into an event space by night for some awesome industry parties.  Like Pengallan’s Launch Party (it’s hard to be the best-looking guy in the room when Tyson Beckford stops by). Or Saturday evening’s Dapper Man Shop Main Event, hosted by Stoli.

A Thursday evening meet-and-greet was hosted by Damien Basile, a local blogger and designer of custom bow ties and pocket squares (check out his exclusive collection for FreshNeck). The event was sponsored by Ploonky.com and 320NY.com, and the attendees were treated to complimentary whiskey and a unique elector-swing set put on by Electric Gentleman.  The evening concluded with a bow tie-tying contest, with winners taking home bow ties from Everett.

Now that the week is over, and we have some time to reflect, we couldn’t be happier with the experience. We also wanted to send a special thank you to the founders of the other companies. You helped make the Dapper Man Shop a resounding success.

Stay Fresh.
